Too Good To Go wants to make good use of leftovers that food establishments customarily toss out by close of business. The U.K. app allows users to order from their favorite restaurants at designated times, typically around closing or after peak hours.
The cost-effective meals are usually 3.80 pounds (approximately $5US) or less, but what’s most notable about the app is an integrated customers’ option to donate at least one British pound through the system in an effort to feed the hungry.
Co-founder James Crummie told Business Green that the premise of the app is simple. “Food waste just seems like one of the dumbest problems in the world,” he said. “The restaurant industry is wasting about 600,000 tonnes of food each year, and in the UK alone there are one million people on emergency food parcels from food banks. Why do we have these two massive social issues that are completely connected, yet there is not much going on to address them?”

Crummie and his group of friends in Denmark originally conceptualized the app in 2015, and since its U.K. launch in June 2016, the Too Good To Go team has donated over 1,100 meals to those in need.
Too Good To Go has also set its sights on the U.S. with a branch dedicated to changing the fact that 1 in 7 U.S. citizens suffer from food poverty while 40 percent of all food in the nation goes to waste.
