Jamie Tartt, doo doo da doo doo doo, Jamie Tartt! He may be one of the most detested Ted Lasso characters in season 1, but Phil Dunster’s Jamie Tartt quickly became a fan-favorite in the second season of the Apple TV+ series. Find out which aspect of playing Jamie Tartt takes Dunster back to his teenage years when he longed to be a “bad boy.”

Jamie Tartt has grown on many ‘Ted Lasso’ fans

When we first meet Jamie Tartt, he’s the most stuck-up player for AFC Richmond. Because he’s on loan from Manchester City, Jamie carries himself as if he’s above the team he’s playing for — something that doesn’t sit well with new coach Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis).

Eventually, the egotistical player starts to come around to Ted Lasso’s ways. But by season 2, Jamie takes a break from soccer to become a reality TV star on the hit series Lust Conquers All. Reverting back to his self-centered ways, Tartt thinks Manchester City will take him back when the show is over. Shocked, Jamie finds no one is waiting for him but Coach Lasso and his old teammates at AFC Richmond. In season 2, Jamie works to regain his teammates’ trust, but with an all-new look.

Phil Dunster’s teen years inspire Jamie Tartt’s eyebrow racing stripe

In Ted Lasso Season 2, Jamie Tartt appears with a racing stripe shaved into his right eyebrow. Dunster’s desire to take on a “bad-boy” persona as a teenager heavily inspired this unique look.

“I’m living out my teenage dream in that hairstyle and the eyebrow,” Dunster tells Vulture. He helped makeup designer Nicky Austin develop the idea for Tartt’s new appearance in season 2.

“It’s a sort of hallmark of what you have when you’re young — it’s a cool, cool thing, like a bad-boy thing to have,” Dunster adds. “I always asked my mom if I could have it but she was like, ‘No.'” The actor also wanted frosted tips as a teen, which his mother also denied. “I was like, ‘Well, I need to rebel now,'” Dunster explains.

The eyebrow stripe is Jamie Tartt’s signature look in season 2, but it’s also symbolic. “I think it’s quite a ubiquitous thing for a lot of footballers in the U.K. and across the world — it’s like a ‘go faster’ stripe.”

Will Jamie Tartt’s ‘bad-boy’ look return in ‘Ted Lasso’ Season 3?

Apple TV+ renewed Ted Lasso for a third season. The streaming giant hasn’t set a release date for season 3, but we’re predicting Ted Lasso will be available sometime in the summer of 2022.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Bill Lawrence, Warner Bros., and Apple hope the show will continue beyond season 3. In reality, the future of the show is on Sudeikis’ shoulders.

“You have two companies arguing over a successful show,” an insider tells the outlet. “Do you pay a larger premium? Does the show go on longer than three seasons? If not, no. If so, yes. Linear rights are huge; what are linear rights worth for a show that runs 34 episodes?”

Ted Lasso Seasons 1 and 2 are available on Apple TV+.
