Heres Why Prince William Is Taking A Break From Social Media

When it comes to the British royal family, there has been loads of controversy lately, especially when it comes to the most recent Oprah and Meghan interview.

Tension has been rising amongst many of the royals prior to Prince Harry and Meghan sitting down with the queen of daytime, particularly with Prince William. Both Harry and William's relationship has suffered over the course of the last few years, however, they both continue to put on a brave face.

Despite the two not being as close as they once were, Prince William is now standing in solidarity for yet another head-turning reason. The Duke of Cambridge made it clear that he would be stepping away from social media for some time, and here's why!

Prince William Takes A Break From Social Media

Prince William announced earlier this month that he would be taking a break from social media! Although William and Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, aren't very active on social media, they remain a driving force with their nearly 13 million Instagram followers, and 2.2 million Twitter followers.

Prince William has been making headlines over the course of the last year, mainly due to his relationship with his brother, Prince Harry.

Ever since announcing he and Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex's departure from the royal family, it's been known that the two haven't been doing all that well.

As if that weren't enough, salt was added to the wound when Prince Harry and Meghan sat down with Oprah Winfrey in their tell-all style interview.

With Prince William and Kate being dragged into things, it became evident that the relationship between William and Harry, and their father, Prince Charles, was not nearly as great as they were leading on.

Well, this time around, Prince William is making headlines for all the right reasons! While the royal has just returned from his social media break, it was all for a good cause.

The 38-year-old took a stand and showed his support for a social media strike that was organized by soccer fans throughout the United Kingdom.

The digital boycott was meant to shed light on the racist and offensive online comments sent to many players within the soccer community. In Prince William's announcement, he wrote, "This weekend we joined the football community in the UK in uniting for a social media boycott ... in response to the sustained abuse received online by players."

According to Us magazine, the boycott is requesting for social media companies to "do more" when it comes to combatting racist/sexist harassment on their many platforms.

Prince William first took a stand on the matter back in January and is using his voice yet again. This is also an issue that Prince Harry is very passionate about, particularly when it comes to hateful speech from the British press, as well.

Despite their differences, things between Prince William and Harry seemed far better during Harry's most recent visit to the UK for his grandfather, the late Prince Philip's funeral.
